Blood TESTS taken and processed when you need them in Northern Ireland
Vitalis Health offers an extensive blood test service 5 days a week.
Below you can see some of the most popular blood tests we offer, the blood tests prices and processes involved.
Our blood tests are carried out by our experienced Health care Assistant Tina Fegan (pictured) in the Vitalis Health clinic in Belfast City Centre.
We can provide a wide range of other blood tests not listed below including genetic & allergy tests. Please contact us and we will be happy to help you.
STEP 1
If you are having a Wellness blood tests or occupational tests for healthcare workers you can book directly with Tina to have the bloods taken.
If you are having any other bloods you must book a 10 minute GP consultation. This fee will be reimbursed if tests are necessary.
The discussion with the doctor is to:
✅ Ensure that you are choosing the correct blood tests,
✅ Understand why you are having the tests so we can report the results to you accurately,
✅ Explain that best action is to see us for a physical examination first before having any tests.
STEP 2
If blood tests are appropriate we will book you in for your blood tests and apply a £50 discount to your bill.
STEP 3
The doctor will share your blood test results by email with their comments, recommendations and next steps.
You can also arrange a telephone review of results if needed.
Please read before booking a blood test:
All of our blood tests are reported to you by a doctor with advice on what to do next. We can only do his thoroughly if we understand your medical history, your symptoms and reasons for wanting certain tests.
If you are under care of a consultant doctor in the Uk who is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and they are requesting a list of tests they must send us a letter explaining what tests are required.
We will then share your results directly with your consultant and also with you if appropriate.
We CANNOT perform blood tests if requested by a consultant or specialist outside of the UK who is NOT registered with the GMC.
WHAT are the costs of having bloods taken?
Unless having a list of wellness full body bloods or occupational blood tests everyone is required to speak with or see one of our doctors first.
We will then deduct £50 fee from the price of the bloods tests and our handling/reporting fee.
We offer blood test bundles or panels which work out much cheaper per test.
Once the doctor and you have agreed which tests to perform you can book in for your blood test appointment.
You will be charged additionally for each individual blood test on the day of your appointment.
Blood test prices are based on the laboratory prices at that time and vary depending on the analysis and reporting required. See FAQs below for information on discounts.
If after speaking to the doctor you do not require bloods test, you will have an idea of what to do next and understand why blood tests were not necessary. This happens in 30% of cases.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONs about blood test appointments
WHEN should my bloods be taken?
Some private blood tests must be taken at specific times of the day, usually the morning, to ensure the samples arrive at the appropriate lab in time.
Some tests must be taken at specific times: Glucose 9:30am, Cortisol 9:30am, Cholesterol 9:30am, Testosterone 9am-9:30am, Quantiferon test for TB by 12pm, Coagulation test 11am, ESR by 11am.
We also recommend that all hormone blood tests are done in the morning and that you are fasting for the 8 hours before.
All other private blood tests can be performed at any time of day.
If you are attending a private GP appointment and require blood tests these can usually be taken during your consultation. If there is not enough time during your appointment you will be asked to book a further blood test appointment.
WHERE are the blood samples processed?
We courier your samples to the laboratory immediately, with results back within 24-72 hours depending on the test. We process bloods across three main labs: Eurofins Biomnis in Dublin, The Doctors Laboratory, London and the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. Depending on the tests required and the time of your appointment we will decide which lab is best suited for carrying out these blood tests.
HOW do I receive my results?
We will share your results with you in a private secured email. Advice is always given by our doctor on what to do next.
What DISCOUNTS are available?
Vitalis Health now offers a 10% discount on the cost of single private blood tests if more than two individual tests are requested. When tests are done as part of a profile or blood test bundle (a group of tests offered by the lab) they work out less expensive per test, in comparison to doing one blood-test on its own, and thus NO further discount is offered for bundles/profiles. If you find a better price for your blood tests, let us know and we will try and match that.
If you are a current student in Belfast, Jordanstown, Magee, Coleraine, Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Cork or anywhere in Ireland or UK, we can now offer a 15% discount on the cost of single tests if more than two single tests are requested (on proof of a Valid Student Card). Remember you don't have to be registered with the NHS or with us to book blood tests.

URINE TESTS
Please ensure that you will be able to pass a urine sample.
DO NOT PASS URINE IN THE TWO HOURS BEFORE COMING SO THAT YOUR BLADDER IS FULL.
CHOLESTEROL / LIPID PROFILE
This test can be done if you are not fasting however, we will not be able to interpret the triglyceride result, as this is affected by eating food. It is therefore advisable to arrive in a fasted state so that this result can be interpreted.
WE RECOMMEND YOU HAVE FASTED FOR AT LEAST 10 HOUR BEFORE AND THAT THESE TESTS ARE TAKEN IN THE MORNING.
GLUCOSE
In order to check whether you have diabetes you also need to be fasting to see what your glucose level is when no food has been digested in the previous 12 hours. Glucose will also be tested in your urine and can also give us an idea of whether you have Diabetes.
