Introduction to our ADHD service, Belfast

At Vitalis Health we can provide private ADHD prescriptions for patients:

  • Registered locally with an NHS GP

  • Who have an ADHD diagnosis and have been seen in-person within the last 6-months by a consultant psychiatrist

  • Who have a shared care agreement from their psychiatrist

  • Who have a psychiatrist based in the UK, with GMC registration

This service supports patients who cannot get the prescription from their NHS GP.

The process and costs are explained below.

As with all private prescriptions you take your private prescription to a chemist where you pay for the mediation. Prices vary for each chemist.

If you are travelling or passing through and have run out of your medication we must be able to contact your consultant psychiatrist to confirm your prescription. This is a legal requirement.

PRescribing ADHD medication is a structured process to ensure safe prescribing:

  1. Before booking an appointment, we ask all new patients to email copies of their diagnosis letter, shared care guidelines, and prescription to info@vitalishealth.co.uk. This helps us confirm that all necessary documentation is in place.

  2. You must then see either Dr Siobhan Graham, Dr Rory McKeown, or Dr Tim Russell for an initial 30 minute GP appointment in order to get your first prescription.

    This costs £140 and is carried out at our clinic in Howard Street, Belfast.

  3. After the first ADHD prescription, repeat prescriptions can be ordered via an online booking link sent to you following your first appointment, for a fee of £25 for each written prescription that is collected from the clinic and £40 (incl. postage costs) if you want us to post it to your home address.

    Please note, the cost for posted scripts was increased from £33 to £40 on Monday 24th November 2025.

  4. Please check your pharmacy that they have your ADHD medication in stock before requesting this from us.

  5. We share our notes with your NHS GP and psychiatrist after each prescription is written so they have a record of this.

  6. Prescriptions must be collected from the clinic.

  7. If you live further away, we can post the script to you. This is sent via Royal Mail first-class next day delivery. Please note, we are not responsible for Royal Mail delays.

  8. Each prescription is for a maximum of 28 - 30 days only, as per guidelines.

  9. You must continue to attend your consultant psychiatrist for review appointments every 3 - 6 months.

  10. Annual review with GP: As of January 2024 you must see one of our GPs in Vitalis Health for a physical examination and consultation annually. The cost for this appointment is £110.

All of this is required to ensure:

  • Safe prescription of medications which are controlled drugs

  • That you are well and that treatment remains suitable and beneficial

  • To avoid dual prescription or duplication of ADHD medication

Controlled ADHD medciation

Controlled drugs are drugs that can be used illegally and have an addictive element. They may also have a ’street’ value and if taken in excess can causes harm to a person.

They are controlled in the sense that our hand written prescriptions are monitored and audited by our clinic in Belfast and also centrally in Northern Ireland by the pharmacy directorate.
