Introducing Dr Tim Russell and his Podcast interview.

This time last year, Dr Tim received an email from a previous patient asking if he would be a guest on his podcast called ‘Abiding’ a trauma recovery Podcast.

Tim had helped this person relate his symptoms to experiences in his past younger life and so paved the way to empowering him to improve his own health and understand his symptoms better.

I wanted to share this last year but sometimes life takes its own detours and I was derailed from ‘upping our doctors’- sorry Tim!

Happy listening.

Some of you may already be Gabor Mate fans. It was Tim who introduced me to Gabor Mate’s book “When the body says No’ a few years ago- I didn’t read it at the time( bought and others), but the piece on the ‘Cancer personality’ may have helped me identify my breast cancer earlier!

But it is a reminder to put your own health first above anyone else you may want or feel obliged to help, and prioritise stress reduction- No exceptions for most of us.

Stress and the trauma of adverse experiences can be inherited through generations unknown to us.

Have a look at your family and see if there are any patterns- it works for both good and bad experiences.

The good news is that knowledge and self-awareness are powers to help make lasting changes to our wellbeing and that of our children.

I can recommend Gabor Mate’s book ‘ When the body says NO’.

If you don’t have time to read it may be try Audible?

Have a health check with your doctor or with us each year. We can’t prevent everything no matter how healthy we strive to be but we can increase our chances of picking things up early and address our general health and health priorities for the year ahead.

Dr Peter Levine is a pioneer in bringing the term trauma and its affects to the forefront of medicine. Prior to this the idea of emotional trauma or trauma held within the nervous system was unheard of and not appreciated. His work predates that of many of the popular doctors and psychologists we hear talking about trauma.
