Mole removal

This procedure is performed for removal of moles that may be cancerous or for the removal of a mole that is growing and you do not like the look of it.

Sometimes a mole that has grown above the surface can catch on your clothing and bleed and so you may want to have it removed for this reason.

All moles that are taken out need to be sent to the laboratory to be analysed in case they are cancerous. The reason for this is that if they are cancerous we need to know that the skin cancer has been fully removed. We also need to know if the mole is cancerous because if it is then you need to see a specialist for further care or treatment. We will make this referral for you.

Seborrhoeic keratosis removal

These spots are usually multiple light brown rough raised moles found over the back and sometimes the side of the head. They are harmless but some people like to have them removed.

This can be done in two ways:

  1. Currettage- this involves scraping off the keratosis using a sharp curved blade. This is done only after freezing the skin with anaesthetic.

  2. Freezing the lesions with liquid nitrogen so that the tissue falls off, much like treating a wart.
