We provide a 12-lead private ECG ( heart tracing) service for anyone who feels generally well, but who may be having palpitations, has a family history of an enlarged heart or is an athlete. Some people require an ECG for work or travel abroad.
If you have chest pain, feel short of breath or unwell we recommend going to A and E . If this is not possible we advise either seeing our doctor immediately for a full examination or discussing your symptoms by telephone consultation.
The heart tracing makes up just one part of a heart examination. We will check your blood pressure at the same ECG appointment and recommend any other tests needed based on the results.

How does an ECG work?
A private ECG (Electro Cardio Graph) measures the electrical activity in the heart and can pick up irregular heart beats such as atrial fibrillation and many other things.
Sensors attached to the skin are used to detect the electrical signals produced by your heart each time it beats. These signals are recorded by a machine and then analysed.
Who administers ECG heart tracing in Vitalis Health?
Private ECGs are carried out by our experienced phlebotomist Tina Fegan in the Vitalis Health clinic in Belfast City Centre. Read more about Tina HERE.
Your private ECG will be carried out by Tina however your results will be analysed by one of our GPs who will contact you directly if there is any need for further consultation.
How do I prepare for my ECG?
We recommended not using body moisturiser the day of your ECG as this can make it harder for the leads to stay in place on your skin. For women, we suggest that you do not wear a bra to your appointment also, as you will have to take this off during the procedure.
Is an ECG painful?
It is not painful and you will not feel any kind of electrical shock.
