| Services | Ovarian Cancer Screening
Ovarian cancer screening and early detection blood tests at our Belfast city centre clinic, with results reviewed in detail by our expert GPs.

The traditional blood test or tumour marker for ovarian cancer is the CA125 test. But, this can be falsely high in women who have a non cancerous condition called endometriosis.
The HE4 test is more specific than the CA125 and is used along with other information to assess whether symptoms of a mass in the abdomen could be ovarian cancer.
Ultimately, we will refer you for an ultrasound scan to assess that the mass is in the ovary. But, the blood test can help expedite the scan referral and guide us when referring you into the gynae clinic.
See below for the best course of action, depending on your symptoms.
All three of these tests are used in this early cancer screening test
We will arrange an in person GP appointment to discuss this result with you, examine your abdomen and do a general health check.
With this information, we will refer you as a suspected cancer case to a gynaecologist where a scan of the ovaries and womb will be performed.
The cost of the GP appointment is £140 and includes the cost of the onward referral.
If you have symptoms of ovarian cancer, then we advise booking in for a 30 minute GP appointment. We can then schedule the test after this along with any other tests required or a referral onwards as needed.
Symptoms include:
We can do a genetic panel for ovarian cancer.
If you are interested in having the NGS panel for ovarian cancer you need to book in to see one of our doctors. This allows us to counsel you about the test. We will also discuss what happens if the test is positive.
