What to expect from your ECG appointment

Please note: if you have chest pain, feel short of breath or are unwell, we recommend attending A&E rather than booking an ECG appointment with us.

Video GP Consultation

£75

Before the ECG is performed you must book a video appointment with one of our doctors to assess your symptoms and ensure the test is appropriate for you.

If your symptoms indicate heart disease or something else such as a blood clot to the lung or a chest infection, our doctor may ask to see you for an in-person GP appointment at the clinic for a physical examination – usually that day, where possible. If the doctor feels that you should attend A&E; they can provide a referral letter for you.

If an ECG is decided as the best investigation for you, then the doctor will book you in for the ECG appointment.

Private ECG (Heart Tracing) FAQs

We’ve answered the most common questions about private ECG heart tracing below. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, our team is happy to help.

A doctor needs to assess your symptoms and reason for requesting an ECG.

It may be that you actually need to come in to see us for a physical examination first, or the doctor may decide you must attend A&E for urgent assessment.

It is much safer to discuss your symptoms with our doctor first. Then they can arrange the ECG for you if this is what is needed.

A private ECG (Electro Cardio Graph) measures the electrical activity in the heart and can pick up irregular heart beats such as atrial fibrillation and many other things.

Sensors attached to the skin are used to detect the electrical signals produced by your heart each time it beats. These signals are recorded by a machine and then analysed.

Private ECGs are carried out by our experienced Healthcare Assistant and phlebotomist Tina Fegan.

Your private ECG will be carried out by Tina however your results will be analysed and shared by one of our GPs. They will contact you directly if there is any need for further consultation.

We recommended not using body moisturiser the day of your ECG as this can make it harder for the leads to stay in place on your skin. For women, we suggest that you do not wear a bra to your appointment also, as you will have to take this off during the procedure.

It is not painful and you will not feel any kind of electrical shock.

Vitalis offers a comprehensive private cardiology service. We offer ECG heart tracing as well as a Healthy Heart Check Up which includes blood tests, ECG, cholesterol check and urinalysis. You can learn more about the Healthy Heart Check Up here.

We aim to offer same day and next day appointments.

We charge £65 for an initial consultation with the doctor and £95 for the private ECG / heart tracing appointment.
